T
he International Council for Cooperating Cultures & Civilizations was founded first on 10 October, 1970 as a cultural and intellectual movement striving to spread peace values and culture in a world of exacerbating conflicts with its negative reflections on the behaviors of individuals and peoples. This Movement is led by an elite of intellectuals, literates and peace advocates from different cultures and civilizations, whereas its activities were extended after the issue of the UN General Assembly's Resolution No. (11/39), declaring the rights of peoples for peace on 12 November 1984. United under one goal of spreading peace culture among peoples, with no other traditional administrative links, the Movement has witnessed a remarkable growth in the number of members who support its orientation around the world, and its activists started receiving invitations from many organizations interested in peace affairs, organizers of conferences, forums and meetings held to discuss peace topics and issues in the world.

Several years after the end of the cold war, the famous essay "Conflict of Civilizations" published in the American "Foreign Affairs" Magazine by the Harvard Professor Mr. Samuel Huntington, had a great role in the growth of peace culture spread and its confrontation to the Conflict of Civilizations Theory, which aroused a lot of controversies in scientific centers and political arenas inside and outside the United States.

The Peace Culture Promotion Movement also realized that world community is in severe need to establish cultural and civilized cooperation able to lead the world towards a better form of tolerance, acquaintance and solidarity instead of conflict, contrast and difference. The attainment of that is pending the establishment of positive relations among peoples, civilizations and cultures, and deepening the feeling of belongingness to one human group dominated by values of justice, solidarity and respect to the Other through knowing him and realizing his identity.

After the attacks of September 11, 2001 and their serious impacts on human community, and the danger of violence and hatred culture growth among peoples, the Movement took its historic resolution in Paris on September 25, 2001, to gather its activists within an organizational framework, called the International Council for Cooperating Cultures & Civilizations, which selected Sweden for its location. Then the basic constitution was formulated to organize the Council's works, explain its responsibilities and determine its relations with international foundations and organizations, in whose previous activities the Movement had participated and is still participating in their programs after having developed into the ICCCC.

The ICCCC by-law, whose articles were lately revised on      /     /        , allows opening branches and offices of the Council in many capitals around the world, and appointing ambassadors in capitals and regions where there are no branches or liaison bureaus.

A Partnership Not Annihilating Resolution Independency

The participation of the ICCCC in the implementation of some joint programs and projects with international organizations and foundations of common interest, such as the European Community and the United Nations with its sub-organizations that have interest in peace and human affairs, as well as other international organizations, official and non official, never means that the ICCCC might be affected in its resolutions or attitudes towards situations or incidents that touch man's life or dignity due to this partnership. On the contrary, the ICCCC always stays independent in its resolutions and orientations, subjugating each effort and participation it exerts to serve its main and major goal, namely: a world dominated by security, peace and cooperation.
